Football Fever is upon us

Four years ago, the boozers were open at 7.00 in the morning. I used to go into work by train and the pub near the station was full of England supporters. For me football supporter = football hooligan, so I thought I, as well as many other commuters, would be jumped and have the fuck beaten out of us on our way to work; but for the duration of the World Cup these guys were well behaved.

I'm not particularly interested in football, but the World Cup is something different. It's the culmination of all the world's football meeting together with the result that I develop a real interest in the game. Every time England gets kicked out the World Cup my support defaults to the Netherlands - there is something really attractive about their bright orange football kit. I also had memories of Johanne Kruyff - he was a real blitz on the pitch - nearly as good as Pele - a superb international player.

Football is a passionate sport, but when it comes to club football, I think I am going to be bored. The premier league is full of unremarkable games - when I look at Premier Division matches, it is like watching laundry going round in a really expensive washing machine. No risks, everything is safe - complete bollocks - very expensive bollocks.
